White Stains

white stainsSwedish cult band White Stains’ “Exploratorium” (etd0001) CD is a compilation of ambient-oriented tracks, many of which were used as soundtracks for experimental films. It is also the debut release on the premiere, neo-avant garde label, EROTOTOX DECODINGS..

Existing first as a psychedelic garage rock band in the late 80′s,
the group’s direction changed quite radically in the 90′s. More
electronics, experiments and specifically ambient pieces created a lasting impression on the “industrial”/dark ambient scene. When the band quit in 1994, after five albums and extensive European tours, their reputation as intuitively and genuinely creative musicians was solid.

With a playfully dark attitude, the band surfed interior worlds of
both frustration and triumph. They manifested their impressions in harsh, psychedelic electronic soundscapes that in strange ways also present an eerie kind of optimism. This album contains a fine range of the different tracks that helped create this still powerful impression.

Having worked with legends such as Genesis P Orridge and The Hafler Trio, founder Carl Abrahamsson and his main musical partners Thomas Tibert and Peter Bergstrandh chose to end the project when it was still fun. Abrahamsson drifted off into solo-projects through the 1990′s and then melted together with Tibert again in the year 2000, in the still existing project Cotton Ferox.
